Today I wanted to update you on our bedroom decorating project and share a quick review of my new duvet. You may remember that I’ve been waiting for my bed to be delivered and it has finally arrived! I spent the weekend with a screwdriver in my hand, assembling my new bed. What do you think of it?
It’s a Hygena bed and we got it from Argos using a 20% discount code so I’m really chuffed that we could get such a well-designed retro-style bed at an absolutely bargain price. I chose the frame after selecting my new mattress from eve, because everyone knows that the mattress is what makes the bed, and not the other way around!I’d been sleeping on my eve mattress on the floor and it was already super-comfortable, but adding it to the frame created a whole new level of comfort. Just FYI, one of the main things that I enjoy about my eve mattress is that my husband can flip over in the night and I feel no movement whatsoever on my side of the bed. I don’t know what the science is behind this, but the memory foam keeps me perfectly still while he moves around. I’ve never had such a peaceful night’s sleep!Anyway, seeing as I was so happy with the mattress, eve seemed to be the natural choice when it came to buying a new duvet too. My old duvet was a double size, so it didn’t fit our kingsize mattress and I wanted to feel super-cosy in my new bedroom. After committing a few years to my limp old duvet (how long are they supposed to last? Is it gross that I’ve used the same duvet for years?!) it was time to upgrade.
I didn’t quite know what I was ordering when I chose the eve all-season duvet, but with a title like that I figured that it must be okay for all year round. And I wanted to have a duvet that I would be comfortable using in both hot and cold seasons. We nearly froze this winter, despite having piles of blankets on the bed. Our old duvet just wasn’t up to the challenge, but I’m optimistic that this one will work well. And that’s because, when the all-season duvet arrived, I discovered that it wasn’t just one duvet – it was two! The all-season-ness of the duvet is that it’s adjustable to suit the temperature of the season; a 4.5 tog spring/summer duvet combines with a 9 tog autumn/winter duvet to make an epic 13.5 tog all-season duvet. What a great idea! The duvets tie together with tabs at the corners to make the thickest, fluffiest duvet I’ve ever laid under. It’s like sleeping beneath a cosy cloud and I love it. I’ve been sleeping under the eve duvet for about a fortnight now and have already taken off the summer layer so that we’re using a 9 tog duvet at the moment. It’s still a little nippy here this month, but I’m pretty sure that I’ll be switching over to the 4.5 spring/summer duvet within the coming weeks if the sun keeps shining.Last year the summer was so hot that we just slept under a sheet, but that felt really odd to me. It got tangled around our feet, slipped off the bed and I just didn’t feel cosy enough in my bed so I never got a good night’s sleep. I’m sure that the 4.5 tog duvet will be just right for when the weather hots up; it’ll be heavy enough to stay in place on the bed but will be light enough to keep us cool on hot nights. What do you think of the new additions to the bedroom so far? I’m already delighted with my new items and they’ve only been in my home for a few weeks. I think they suit my 1950s house perfectly and I’m so comfy now. They always say that you should invest in your shoes and your bed, because if you’re not in one you’re in the other, so I’m happy to spend a little extra cash to get the cosiest bedroom set-up possible.
Now, I need your help: I’m on the look-out for some mid-century style bedside tables so please let me know if you come across anything suitable while browsing online. I also need bedside lamps and fitted wardrobes, eek! The whole house renovation is starting to add up so I wonder if there’s a way that I can thrift any of these projects? Leave me a comment if you have any ideas, I need all the help I can get!
