Vegan down bedding
Have you ever heard of vegan down before? It’s a duvet and pillow filling made from recycled plastic bottles, wrapped in a sustainably sourced pure cotton outer. The recycled fibres replicate the lofty way that natural down (usually duck or goose feather) traps air and holds warmth, giving you a cosy bed for all seasons.
The recycled vegan down filling also makes a duvet easier to launder and dry, so you can keep your bedding fresh without damaging the delicate feathers of natural down. And, perhaps most importantly, vegan bedding helps you to create a cosy bed without any animal components or derivatives. Price-wise, it’s often more cost-effective to buy a recycled vegan duvet compared to a luxury feather-filled duvet.
Recycled plastic filling
Alternatively, microfibre duvet fillings contain less polyester – and most of the polyester that is included in the products is recycled from other plastic products. For example, lightweight duvets filled with Smartfil® fibres are made from 100% recycled PET bottles and are considerably lower in price than traditional down duvets.
The recycled polyester fibres make the products hypoallergenic and washable up to 60 degrees, which is ideal for people with allergies as that’s the temperature that prevents dust mites. Plus, the fibres are squishable so the duvet can easily fit into the washing machine and then will bounce back to the same shape and softness after the wash.
BCI Cotton
When you’re choosing sustainable bed sheets, it’s a good idea to opt for cotton – but only if it is sourced through the Better Cotton Initiative. It’s the largest cotton sustainability programme in the world, which helps to preserve this important renewable natural resource and support the farmers and workers who produce it.
Not only is BCI cotton good for the communities that grow the cotton, but it’s also a healthy fabric to have against your skin. It’s breathable, so you won’t find yourself getting too hot (or too cold) during the night. Plus, high thread-count cotton fabrics have a softness that feels smooth to the touch, what a luxury!
