The news has finally sunk in. I’ve registered for my ticket and I AM going to the UK Blog Awards woo! The ceremony is on 29th April and is being held in a glitzy location in the capital. And to top it all off, I’m a finalist in the Most Innovative Blog category. Pretty cool, huh? When the news was first announced I really couldn’t believe it. After years of blogging, my thrifty little lifestyle blog was being recognised by the industry and I was chuffed to bits! It was amazing to think that family, friends, readers and colleagues had all voted me through to the final stages of the blog awards and now I was invited to attend THE event of the year. Unbelievable stuff!
I really like the neckline of this Quiz Navy & Cream Textured Crochet Neck Dress and the lace on this Dorothy Perkins Navy Scallop Midi Dress is subtle enough for me!
But then, panic! What on earth do I wear? I’m a jeans-and-jumper kind of girl at home (yes, I’m sat here wearing my oversize woolly grey jumper with pink spots as I write this) so, not only am I out of my comfort zone even being at the awards ceremony in the first place, but now I also don’t know what I can wear and still feel like me. I think I’m pretty far removed from what I imagine a ‘blogger’ to look like. Okay, I know we all come in different shapes and styles, but I feel like I’m the uncool aunt compared to the super-blogger I’ve conjured up in my mind. Hmm…
But I’ve decided to shake off that idea and pull my socks up (or should that be tights for a glitzy event like this?) and get on with planning an outfit. Just because I rarely get the chance to dress up for a special event in ‘everyday life’ it doesn’t mean that I don’t deserve to pull on a few sparkles every now and then! And what better excuse than the National Blog Awards eh? It doesn’t matter how many times I say it, I still won’t really believe it until I’m walking into the ceremony hall. Now let’s make sure that I’m looking good when I DO walk in..!
Wonder if I can pull off a fitted dress like this Debut Light Pink Lace Bodice Dress from Debenhams? This Quiz White & Silver Chiffon Glitter Prom Dress might be a bit too sparkly for me, but isn’t it fabulous?!
I’ve spent (no joking) hours looking for something to wear. The online fashion retailers are my new best friends. The trouble is TOO many lovely dresses! I’ve found it hard to narrow it down to a colour, let alone a shape or length. I simultaneously worry about looking too dressy or too casual. Where’s that happy medium? Lace, sequins, diamante, tulle – how much is too much? Will I end up all itchy?? Argh, decisions, decisions.
The eye-catching stripes on this Beatrice Dress from Boden look flattering and the shape of this Dorothy Perkins Black Bardot Midi Dress is gorgeous.
What I HAVE decided on is a pair of shoes. Okay, I haven’t made the final decision yet, because I don’t know what dress I’ll be wearing, but I know I will need to wear a pair of Hotter shoes that have been kindly gifted to me. They are the only heels that I know I can wear all night long without needing to hobble home in my bare feet. In fact, I can dance all night long and run for a taxi at the end of the night in a pair of Hotter heels so I’m convinced that these are the only choice for me. I’m yet to choose between these pairs but this is the shortlist so far…What do you think of my outfit inspiration for the National Blog Awards? What would you choose for a big event like this? Are you going to the UK Blog Awards too?? Please leave me a comment below or tweet me @Cassiefairy to let me know what you think.

Glad you picked that one! In the end I found a floor length silver dress from Miss Selfridge. It really isn’t my usual style, but I was running out of time 🙂 Hopefully bump into you on the night!
Hi Susan, I went for the Boden dress in the end, it’s really swishy and comfy too! What have you decided to wear?? 🙂
Hi Cassie!
I found this post when I googled “UK Blog Awards dress code” and I’m so glad I’m not the only one wondering what the hell to wear. Absolutely love the Boden dress, too, although they all look fab 🙂
Thanks so much Sarah Kate, I agree – I think the Boden dress might be “the one” and the pink shoes just arrived yesterday hurrah! x
Congrats on being shortlisted and good luck for the evening. I love the look of the Boden dress and think they’d look great with the pink shoes x
