Did you know that Father’s Day is on Sunday 20th June this year? That means you’ve got a couple of weeks to find a lovely gift, tasty treat or fun experience for your dad to enjoy. I’ve come up with all kinds of ideas to suit a variety of your dad’s interests from foodie gifts and clutter-free virtual subscriptions to days out and brain-expanding fun…
EXPERIENCE DAYS
When giving a gift it’s always my first instinct to look for experiences rather than things. That’s probably because it’s my own preference to receive tickets or vouchers or a promote of days out rather than something physical that’ll clutter up my home. So I always figure that other people will like the same – and, at the very least, if it’s an experience for two we’ll get to spend some quality time together.
When looking for an experience that Dad will enjoy you can’t go wrong by booking a gift experience at Red Letter Days or BuyAGift. On either website you’ll find a huge variety of activities and days out to suit your dad – from adventures such as zip-lining and supercar driving, to tours around distilleries or stadiums, to short breaks and even flying! I especially like the idea of the foodie treats and anything where you can do an activity together as a family and make memories together.

If you’re looking for a last-minute gift, you can’t go wrong with a subscription gift card for an app like Readly. I really don’t think you can go wrong with chocolate as a gift for most people. Or any foodie treats for that matter. Rather than giving a physical gift that’ll take up space in the recipient’s life, I think it’s a safe-bet to give them a delicious consumable. To make it extra-special for dad, you can get personalised choccies like these white chocolate and milk chocolate Toblerone bars online. They can be personalised with up to 15 characters and, having previously been given a ‘Cassiefairy’ Toblerone myself, I can tell you from experience just how special I felt receiving it.
Another option is a hamper full of goodies, which is a lovely thing to send in the post if you’re not able to visit your dad on Father’s Day. Again, chocolate is my personal choice, and it’s especially nice when it contains all of dad’s favourites. Is there a better gift for your dad than than spending quality time together as a family? I love a good puzzle, as it means hours of chatting (probably with some snacks and drinks!) while sitting around the kitchen table to complete the challenge together. It’s just so satisfying when you finish a puzzle isn’t it? It’s especially fun when you’re interested in the subject of the image, so a space-themed puzzle with shaped pieces would be ideal for dads who love to watch SpaceX rocket launches and for kids who’ve learnt about astronaut Tim Peake at school.
If your dad is anything like the men in my family, he’ll love playing board games and watching TV quizzes. If that’s the case, combine the two with Richard Osman’s House of Games, which is based on the hit BBC2 show and is a true compendium of skill and trivia games. It’ll get the mind whirring by testing dad’s knowledge and, because it’s suitable for three or more players, it adds a competitive edge that brings everyone together.
Even though these are ‘physical’ gifts, I see them more as games you can play time and again as a family – the gift of having fun together and laughing lots! We are massive fans of Taskmaster in our home so, when I got the board game last year, it was a great hit. Which is precisely why I would recommend it as a Father’s Day gift. If your dad is a fan of the show and is always explaining how HE would do a task, this game allows him to compete against family members or friends to complete a range of silly tasks. The Taskmaster game could probably last all day if you wanted it to, so it makes for a fun party!
