Valentine’s Day is coming up, so let’s start thinking about what we can do for our friends and our partners. Whether you want to make your pal feel special on Galentine’s Day or want to spoil your special someone on the 14th February, here are some ideas they’ll enjoy…
Your initials entwined
A gorgeous idea that’s been brewing in my mind is creating a personalised “couple’s logo”. This involves creating a logo that combines both of your initials and it can be either hand-drawn if you’re feeling creative or you can use a free logo maker like the Adobe online designer to help you. Then you can use it to personalise any item you like – a Valentine’s Day card, have it printed onto a mug, turned into a poster artwork, or just used within your email signature.
This idea stemmed from seeing my friend’s wedding invitation, which combined the couple’s initials and the logo was also used on reusable cups that were given to us as favours – such a sweet idea. Imagine creating your “couple’s logo” for Valentine’s Day and then one day using it on your own wedding invitations; magical!

Sweets and treats
I love receiving consumables as gifts – they’re often a luxurious treat that you wouldn’t usually buy just for yourself, making it feel really special. Plus, they don’t take up any space in your home because you’ll be eating up those snacks and treats soon enough!
I’ve previously chosen the Tokyo Treat snack box of Japan’s best bites for my brother’s birthday and for Christmas gifts, so naturally, I headed to the website to see if they have a Valentine’s version available. This pack did not disappoint with its gorgeously pink packaging, and (if he doesn’t read this!) it’ll make a lovely treat for my husband this February.
Plus, it’s possible to subscribe to receive a treat box each month, which is a great way to show someone that you care about them throughout the whole year, not just on Valentine’s Day!

Galentine’s cinema date
One of the coolest Galentine’s events I’ve heard about this year is the screening of Mean Girls at the National Space Centre. For one night only, this iconic venue becomes the backdrop to the dreamiest girls’ night out. Think after-hours exploring with your besties, a complimentary cocktail to kick things off and a soundtrack straight from the 00s.
You can order lush charcuterie or dessert picnic boxes to enjoy during the big‑screen showing of the 2004 friend-shop themed film – now a cult favourite. It’s basically the ultimate cosy‑fun night out, wrapped up in a once-in-a-lifetime package. Yes, you can sit with us.

Dining under the stars
Considering how much I love all things space-related, it probably comes as no surprise that I discovered the details of the Mean Girls event while looking for a Valentine’s Date for myself and my husband, also at the National Space Centre.
I’ve never been before but I’m hoping to visit the National Space Centre this year and would it be simply magical for that to be on Valentine’s Day? The Centre hosts a range of special events throughout the year, including science week and half-term activities for families, but their ‘Cosmic Valentine‘ event interested me the most – a romantic dinner for two within the iconic galleries. And, if you were planning a proposal, you can arrange to enjoy completely private dining inside the centre’s world-famous planetarium.

A box of memories
Of course, this Valentine’s Day article wouldn’t be complete without a thrifty gift suggestion from me. Many moons ago, I created a DIY memory box as a Valentine’s Day gift, so I’d like to suggest that you do the same for your partner or best friend. The box was upcycled and I added sweets, treats, photographs, romantic notes and quotes to make it really a personal present.
It’s a really frugal way to let someone special know how much you care about them and you can both enjoy looking through the photos and keepsakes together, recalling the fun times you’ve had. Be sure to add some tickets for something new to do together – a theatre show, cinema tickets, a day out – so you’ve got an opportunity to make more memories to add to the box in the future.

Let me know what you’ve got planned for Valentine’s Day, I’d love to hear some more ideas from you in the comments below, whether it’s a creative or thrifty treat, a frugal day out or something truly special you’re excited to do for your partner.
