Tuesday Shoesday – Those “other” accessories…

Collaborative feature

It may be Tuesday Shoesday but today I’m doing things a bit differently. Instead of focusing on beautiful shoes and fabulous bargains, I’ve decided to check out that ‘other’ all-important accessory instead: the handbag. It’s equally as important as shoes – you probably don’t ever leave the house without it – and it can have so many uses that it’s hard to know where to start when you’re shopping for a new one. That’s where I come in. Today’s blog post is a wishlist of handbags for every occasion and all purposes. Plus one of these bags is an absolute steal and I am definitely buying it! Can you guess which? Let’s get started…handbag satchel clutch bag school work wedding spring summer 2016 shoppingFirst up is satchels. I carry a satchel myself most days. They’re small enough to carry without putting too much of a strain on my arm or back (yes, I love a cross-body strap) and they’re big enough to hold everything I need day-to-day. They can look rather cool in a back-to-school kind of way too, and remind me of my college years. I posted a photo of my own satchel on Instagram recently for a ‘what’s in my bag’ tag, so you can have a nosy at my tiny little everyday satchel if you like. It’s embossed leather and deep blue so goes perfectly with most of my autumn/winter wardrobe. I’d quite like to have a brighter, summer version of my satchel to migrate over to during the warmer months.handbag satchel school work yellow spring summer 2016

Generally speaking satchels are big enough for a tablet, a diary, phone and all the usual home-to-office bits ‘n’ pieces we all have to lug around with us each day. The gorgeous yellow bag above is by Ralph Lauren so it’s out of my usual shopping budget but OH MY isn’t it gorgeous? That said, it’s in the House of Fraser clearance at the moment, so if you were thinking of investing, now’s the time to do it!handbag satchel school work blue spring summer 2016 bagNext up is the good ol’ handbag. I don’t have a handbag in my wardrobe at the moment as I tend to carry everything in my satchel. Even so, I really like the shape of this boxy Kenneth Cole handbag above. It feels really ‘vintage’ to me and the curved straps make for ladylike carrying in the crook of your arm. The pastel blue is just right for summer and reminds me of sunny blue skies on holiday. But the biggest plus for me is the optional cross-body strap, which turns this handbag into a satchel and means that I can use it for weekdays as well as on weekends.handbag satchel clutch bag spring summer 2016 wedding formalOne final bag that should be in every girl’s collection is a clutch bag. It’s a bag that only really comes out at the weekends or for special events, but it’s equally as important. It’s very rare that you’d be able to find a satchel or handbag that will look good with your wedding guest attire or awards ceremony outfit. However, a small clutch bag is just the thing for holding you lipstick, tickets and phone. This lace-trimmed clutch above is from Dorothy Perkins and is only £7 in the House of Fraser sale. I think this design and colour combination is ideal for both weddings and formal evening events, so I would get a lot of use out of it!

What do you think of my wishlist of handbags? Have a missed out a particular type of bag that you use all the time? What type of bag are you carrying at the moment? Let me know by leaving me a comment below or tag me in a photo of your favourite bag on Instagram @Cassiefairy.
