One of the vintage concepts that people tend to overlook though, is the idea of the vintage wedding. For a lover of anything retro or classic, a vintage wedding sounds like a dream (and could even end up being cheaper depending on just how vintage you want to be). Read on to find out what three things you need to consider in order to get that vintage theme down to a tee. PLANNING AHEAD
Without a doubt, the most important aspect of any large event (particularly your wedding day) is preparation. Planning for future events doesn’t just involve thinking about what you’ll be doing on the day, it encompasses lots of different things, from the location and photographer to the décor and dresses. THE VENUE
First things first, it won’t be a vintage wedding without a venue that matches your theme and has the facilities you need. Consider the children at your wedding – will they have entertainment? What about the space – can the venue house all of your guests? These are essential points to consider but with a vintage wedding the theme plays an even more important role.
Within the term ‘vintage’ there are plenty of different options, colour schemes and styles that you can work from. It’s these ideas that your venue will need to match and work with. For example, if you want to have a natural vintage wedding, then the venue will need to include lots of wild flowers and greenery if you want your wedding pictures to be out in nature too. On the flip side, if you’re opting for a vintage wedding with a more industrial style then the venue will need to be decorated with lots of retro furnishings to complete the appearance.

THE MUSIC
Next, we have the music. Whilst everyone loves to dance and it’s easier to dance to songs you know, for the ceremony itself you’ll want to pick out music that’s important to you or appropriate for your theme. Finding appropriate music can be a little bit of a challenge but if you’ve opted for a specific decade as your theme, then hit songs from each era are fairly easy to locate, listen to and try out.
The most important thing to keep in mind is that whilst music plays a huge part in the atmosphere – this is still your special day. Don’t feel forced into a decision. You should always pick the choice that makes you happiest.
THE DRESS
Finally, the all-important item to think about – the wedding dress. Wedding dresses come in countless styles and designs but vintage options tend to be a little more unique. Personally, I recommend researching vintage dresses and finding a design that you like, then focus your search on a dress with a similar style. One of the best places to find vintage wedding dresses is at charity shops like Oxfam. Not only are they reasonably priced but you know you will be supporting others through your purchase. It’s a win-win.
