I’ve been doing a mini-makeover on the living room of my new home this year and you may have spotted my previous blog posts about my retro-inspired interior design choices. This post is kind of about a few more retro items that I’ve picked up recently – a couple of games have been added to my living room, just in time for Christmas. I don’t know about you, but my family certainly has much more interest in playing board games and making jigsaw puzzles during December than at any other time of year. In fact, I don’t remember playing a game all year until the last couple of weeks when we have got the festive puzzles out – particularly difficult with their uniform-colour snow scenes!
I’ve recently purchased Boggle – a game that I’ve enjoyed many times over the years but have never owned – and when I saw it in a charity shop I snapped it up, not realising that its vintage box in a lovely sun-faded-orange shade was the perfect accessory for my retro living room! I’ve also been unpacking (since moving in May!) and have come across one of my personal favourites and possibly one of the easiest games ever (probably why I like it) – Whot. A great card game that has come with us to many festivals and is great entertainment when waiting with friends in a never-ending queue for an event. I hope to get a lot of use out of both of these games and might start keeping an eye out for other board games that I remember from my childhood – remember Coppit? or Mousetrap? What games do you remember from your youth?
