When special occasions roll around each year, I always look for something different to gift to the person I love. Mother’s Day is a great opportunity to show your family members how much you care – it could be a grandmother, mum, aunt or anyone who has been like a mother to you.
Here are some lovely ideas that they’ll be delighted to receive this Mother’s Day:

Beautiful books
A gorgeous gift that I’ve recently discovered is a journal book that a parent, grandparent or family member can complete with their own memories and anecdotes, enabling their story to be passed down to younger generations.
The journals usually contain encouraging writing prompts to help the writer reflect on their life, with space for jotting down stories. I’ve seen a couple of options that look really lovely: firstly, the ‘Mom’s Story‘ book (above), with its stunning linen cover with golden foil design. It looks just like a Jane Austen book and will become a heirloom keepsake for the future.
The second is the ‘Uniquely Us‘ book (below), which is a shared journal for mothers and daughters to create together – that sounds so lovely, doens’t it? This beautifully designed book encourages you to spend time together completing it and prompts conversations to learn more about each other.

Extraordinary experiences
I’ve often discussed how experience gifts are so lovely to give and receive. You can get a pair of tickets to something special so that you can enjoy a day out together, plus it gives the recipient something to look forward to long after their special day.
So when I need to shop for a gift on a special occasion, I like to look ahead to see what events, theatre shows and activities are coming up locally. This usually gives me inspiration for an event to book so that I can gift the tickets to my loved one.
This year’s Norfolk and Norwich Festival in May is a great source of events that’ll cater to every taste, so I’ll be looking at the programme listings for the festival to choose some tickets to book as gifts. There are dance performances, art exhibitions, orchestras, theatre, talks and workshops – there are so many tickets I’d like to book and I know we will have a great time on our day out together. I’ve previously attended the Ragroof tea dance and that would be a wonderful experience to share with mum – there’s music, dancing and a lush cream tea to enjoy: perfect!

Special socks
Not just a stocking filler; I think that socks are a great gift at any time of year. Especially when they’re a fun design that says something funny. These Mother of the Freakin’ Year! socks are just right – vibrant colours, fun pattern and a cheeky message hidden inside their shoes.
I love to include items like socks in a pampering package – something like a hamper or even just a gift bag packed with treats. You can create a lovely DIY hamper that’s perfectly tailored to the recipient, with all their favourite snacks or beauty products, making it a truly personalised gift.

For Mothers-to-be
If a family member or friend is expecting a baby, there’s no reason you can’t get them a Mother’s Day gift too. In fact, a lovely book that guides women from pregnancy to postpartum has recently been published, called ‘Strong as a Mother‘ and this would make a fabulous gift for a mum-to-be.
Plus, I’ve previously made a fabulous DIY new-baby bundle hamper, full of gifts that mum and baby will both enjoy, so be sure to check that out too if you want to create something customised. Likewise, you can see my step-by-step guide to print a personalised tote bag or piece of clothing just for mum.

I hope this little gift guide will be helpful when you are selecting the perfect present for your loved one this Mother’s Day. Let me know in the comments below what gifts you’re considering for Mother’s Day this year, I’d love to hear your ideas for lovely presents or things to do on days out with mum.
