I’ll be honest. I’m not the best cook. Sure, I’m interested in baking and cooking, and I’m always excited to try out new recipes – just sometimes it goes spectacularly wrong. Nonetheless I enjoy cooking for my family and friends and just this weekend we dished up some lovely pressure cooker meals for friends who came to stay.

I mainly have trouble with puddings – like the time that I made a chocolate cake with apple sauce instead of eggs and it was so bad that even the birds wouldn’t eat it when I put the leftovers on the bird table. And the other time when I made ‘healthy’ muffins without sugar and they were as dry as biscuits. I really want to improve my baking so when a friend and I were talking and she gave me a link to a list of handy dessert recipe apps I couldn’t wait to try it out. Here’s some tips and the link if you’re interested in improving your own baking skills too:

TRY SOME QUICK AND EASY DESSERTS

It’s not necessary to make a complicated dessert. The desserts that are best are delicious and will make your taste buds sit up and take notice right from the first bite. Whether you’re making lemon tarts, ice cream cake or bread and butter pudding, it doesn’t need to take hours to create something tasty. In fact, sometimes, you don’t even have to use the oven..!

One example of a simple dessert that everyone loves is chocolate chip cookies. But if you are looking for a no-bake option like I am, there are cookies that you can make without even turning on the oven. Oreo truffles are delicious, easy and sure to please. All you need is some Oreos, cream cheese and some melted chocolate chips. They are a huge hit.

TRY OUT HEALTHY AND TASTY DESSERTS

If you’re health conscious, it doesn’t mean that you have to give up desserts completely. Whether you’re training for a race, lifting weights or simply trying to shed those pesky five pounds, you will find recipes for a variety of desserts that you can enjoy without the guilt online.

Whether you want gluten-free, paleo, vegan, keto, or diabetic-friendly desserts, there are plenty of choices out there if you know where to look. A satisfying option that is waistline-friendly is a delicious smoothie. Or take your favorite yogurts and freeze them to have a tasty, bite-sized snack anytime you have a hunger spike. You can even freeze your yogurt and make them into ice lollies when the weather is hot.

TRY OUT SOMETHING NEW

If you’ve been making the same old desserts over and over again, there’s a good chance that you, and your family, might be getting a bit bored with them. Sometimes you can impress your guests simply by trying out something new. You can either add something exotic to a dessert you already make, like adding mango to your favorite cheesecake recipe. Or you could go for something completely different by exploring the various recipes that you can find on apps like Tasty and Allrecipes

Yes, the recipes might sound a little different and they may not turn out to be a winner, but you’ll never know until you give them a try! Plus, you might just find something new and exciting that turns into your family’s new favorite dessert. Don’t be afraid to venture into uncharted territory – some of the best recipes were made by mistake!

If you’re looking for new ways to wow your friends and family when it comes to dessert, using apps to discover new flavour combinations and recipe ideas a good place to start. You may find some new recipes that you wouldn’t have found otherwise and discover a new taste sensation that will be requested at all of your get-togethers. Let me know your favourite pudding recipes in the comments below and I’d love to hear about those desserts that you go to time and again because they are fail-safe crowd pleasers!
