If you want to save some money and get the best price on your big-ticket purchases, there’s always a better time of year to buy them. For example, you can get great deals on TVs and tablets on Black Friday, or wait until the January sales for the biggest price drops on the products. But it’s not just these sales events where you can make savings as many products are seasonal. Here are three categories where you can get a good deal in September.
1. GARDEN FURNITURE
As soon as the weather changes and autumn is in the air, the price of garden products tends to decrease. Retailers know that there’s only a short window of opportunity to sell their summer stock before we all head indoors for the winter so there are some great deals to be had on items like rattan garden furniture, hammocks and parasols. Great for autumn entertaining while the weather still permits!
You can get a much better price in September than you would if you waited until the spring to purchase your garden furniture. So, if you’ve been eyeing up a swing seat or pizza oven, now’s the time to start shopping around for the best prices. Often, physical stores have already cleared away their summer stock to make room for Halloween (or, dare I say it, Christmas!) so you might not find garden furniture in stores. Instead, head online to find outdoor seats on sale, deals on deckchairs, or bargains on barbeques.
The only consideration is that you’ll need to store your new purchase over winter, so make sure you have space in the shed, or buy a cover to protect it. The good thing about rattan furniture is that it can withstand harsh temperatures so it’ll be okay in the cold weather. Frames are powder-coated to keep them rust-proof (handy for wet winter weather) and they’re UV-resistant so won’t be damaged by the sun. So, there’s no reason not to buy your summer garden furniture now if it means you can get a bargain!
2. TECHNOLOGY
September is a key time to shop for low-cost technology. Why? Because it’s back-to-school season and that means thousands of college and university students who retailers want to target with their deals. Most students will need to stock up on laptops, printers, PCs and software ready for the new term, so there are certainly bargains to be had on these type of products.
You only have to look on tech retailers’ websites to see the deals that you can get on new products in September. Plus, it’s going to be the more affordable end of the market that’ll see the best reductions, as companies know that students have a budget to stick to (but also a student loan available to spend!) so prices of already-low-cost laptops will be slashed further.
Plus, I bet you’ll be able to find a good deal on smartphones at this time of year. Whether you want to buy one outright and pop in your own PAYG sim, or to sign up to a new contract, there will definitely be deals on phones across the board as companies compete to part students from their money. Also, don’t forget to check out refurbished phones if you want a new one, as these are already a bargain and have often it’s only the box that has been opened and immediately returned.
3. GETAWAYS
After the hustle and bustle of the summer holidays, the tourism in many destinations is slowing down again from mid-September onwards, so you’ll be sure to get a much better deal on your autumn or winter getaway. Prices skyrocket during the school holidays and immediately decrease as soon as the children are back at school. Whether you want to enjoy a UK break or travel further afield, it’s going to be cheaper to do so now.
Also, you’re likely to get a bargain if you book your summer holiday for next year in advance so do your research and see what deals you can find if you’re willing to commit to a getaway now. It’s may be difficult to decide on what you’ll want to do next year this far ahead, and who knows that will be possible in terms of travelling abroad by then? But, if you’re planning a UK break and you’re happy to plan it a year in advance , you’ll probably get a good price on your holiday by booking now.
I hope these ideas will help you to save some money if you’re already considering updating your garden furniture, investing in a new laptop or booking a break. Let me know what other bargains you’ve got in September, I would love to add some more seasonal deals to this list. 🙂
