Sparkling walls are big news in interiors at the moment, but that doesn’t mean you have to go OTT with jewel-encrusted feature walls or step away from your usual interior decor style. In fact, glitter wallpaper is a rather delicate way to bring a touch of twinkle into your home for a glamorous look that doesn’t overwhelm the space.
It’s surprisingly easy to incorporate this new trend into your home and it doesn’t matter what interior decor style you already have. There’s sure to be a shimmery wallpaper out there that’s ideal for your space, whether it’s a nature-inspired print, a vibrant chevron, a neutral stripe, or a traditional historic design.
Maximalist interiors have long included sparkling gilded pieces, reflective mirrors and glittering accessories and choosing a twinkling wallpaper is just one step further. If you love chic, opulent decor, a glitter feature wall is the ultimate design choice. But it doesn’t have to be a solid-colour glitter.
Vintage-style floral wallpaper with a delicate reflective finish provides the best of both worlds for maximalist interiors, with its combination of exuberant botanical designs a splash of tonal glitter. It pairs beautifully with gold accessories and dark furniture – the hallmarks of a modern maximalist interior. I personally think this is the best way to incorporate the glitter wallpaper trend into your home, as it’s both opulent and design-led.
Even period interiors can benefit from this luxe trend by choosing a baroque design or damask wallpaper in a neutral hue. This allows the wallpaper to blend into the room seamlessly, while adding just a touch of sparkle when the light hits it. This helps to create a subtle glow and cosy ambience when lit by lamps at night and has a barely-there finish during the day.
For those of you who favour a more minimalist interior, don’t dispair – this trend IS still one for you. I tend to prefer geometric designs over florals and damask prints myself, so I’ve hunted out a geometric wallpaper in neutral hues that is ideal for a contemporary, Scandi-style home. This paper has shimmering properties and, as such, it emphasises the three-dimensional graphic pattern.
So there you have it – three ways to use glitter wallpaper in any style of interior.
