There’s nothing nicer than a homemade gift – and a present that’s personal to you or your loved one is even better. This phone case project is super easy to hand-make and will mean so much more to the recipient when they realise that you’ve gone to the trouble of making a special design just for them.
This custom-made gift is ideal for birthday’s Valentine’s Day or even Christmas and you can add any words, patterns or names that you wish. Here’s another example – my festive star pattern phone case that I created by upcycling my old clear silicone phone case – and I still use it to this day!
Today’s DIY video will give you step-by-step instructions to personalise your phone case (or any tablet cover or device case) using self-adhesive sticky vinyl. You can choose any colours you like – I’ve used metallic gold for the stars and light birch wood-effect vinyl for the ‘Lovely’ design.
You will need
- Self-adhesive vinyl
- A blank phone case
- Cutting machine – I used a Brother ScanNCut
- Alternatively, you can use a printer and a cutting mat with a craft knife to hand-cut your design
And here’s the instructional video – it’s less than 2 minutes long and shows you every step I took to make this design using a cutting machine. If you don’t have a cutting machine, don’t worry – you can still get the same effect.
Simply use a printer to print out the phrase in a font of your choice and then use this as a template to cut out the letters from the sticky vinyl. Once pressed into place the sticky vinyl should last for many months – or even years! And, when you want to make a change to your phone case, you can easily peel off the letters and create a new design.
I’ve shared a few custom projects that use vinyl – including t-shirts, slogan sweatshirts and phone cases – as well as some other low-cost and DIY gift ideas for Valentine’s Day on my Cassiefairy YouTube channel so be sure to check it out!
I hope you’ll have a go at creating this customised phone case for yourself or as a Valentine’s or birthday gift for a friend or family member. I’d love to see what you create to please do tag me in your makes on Instagram @Cassiefairy. Thanks!
