I was completely blown away when I first saw Sally’s incredible interior on Instagram a couple of years ago. On her popular interior design profile @SallyDoesSassy, she shares all her latest home additions, along with upcycling projects and DIY makeovers.
I was immediately drawn in by her striking maximalist style and couldn’t wait to find out more about her home and the techniques she used to design such a personality-packed space. I was lucky enough to interview her for issue 71 of Reclaim magazine, which was when I learned all about the renovation she had undertaken.
You can tell from these photos that Sally is very much into animal print and I admire the variety of patterns she’s been able to coordinate in her home, matching leopard print with art deco wallpaper and bold florals. It’s such a strong look but one that is truly reflective of all of Sally’s favourite things.
Running through the whole house and tying the scheme together is gold. Accessories, furniture and fabrics in gleaming gold bring a thoroughly opulent feel to the interior, complimenting both the art deco style and her favourite animal patterns perfectly.
One of Sally’s most popular upcycles is the old armchair (above) that she painted bright gold. It’s used in her kitchen and sometimes outdoors on her decking and it just goes to show what an impressive effect you can get if you just have a go at reusing old furniture.
Other quirky details include the palm-tree style freestanding lamp in the living room (which I absolutely love and would go perfectly with my pineapple table lamp!) and mannequin legs that Sally has planted up with ferns. Houseplants are another theme of the interior and help to tie all the spaces together by adding a natural dose of bright green.
I hope this home tour has inspired you to introduce more of your own favourite things into your interior. Let me know your favourite elements of Sally’s home in the comments below.
