This year I thought I would do something a little different for my Valentine’s Gift guide – I’m showing you what my husband and I are getting for each other.
I know that’s a bit of a spoiler for us both, but hopefully he won’t read this before I get a chance to give him these special treats!
I thought it was important to share these ideas now as they can still be ordered TODAY and will be delivered in time for Valentine’s Day, which is a great help if you’re not going to be with your loved one on the 14th – at least their gift will arrive to let them know you’re thinking of them.
A present for both of us
So, let’s dive straight in with the gift that we are sharing – a Date Night Experience Box from buyagift. I’ve often said that I personally experiences really lovely to receive, as it’s basically the gift of ‘quality time’. It gives us something to look forward to and builds memories together.
One of my new year’s goals was to make ‘when adventure calls, answer’ my motto for the year and this experience gift box is a great start to that. We can plan an activity using the voucher, from a dinner date or cinema trip to a segway adventure or a glamping getaway, and go for it!
The classic flowers
Although a bouquet of blooms is quite traditional, it’s actually something that both myself and my husband enjoy receiving. We don’t buy cut flowers throughout the rest of the year, just on special occasions, so it’s a real treat to receive a flower delivery for Valentines Day, birthdays or anniversaries.
Getting a bunch of flowers is a really thoughtful gift because often the blooms within the bouquet have been chosen because they’re the recipient’s favourite flowers – for me, that’s roses or gerberas. All the beautiful gift wrapping with layers of coloured tissue or craft paper just adds to the sense of occasion
Plus, it means we can arrange a lovely floral display to enjoy in our living room, which brings beautiful scents to the whole house.
A present for him
I usually opt for gifts that we can share (let’s face it, we like a lot of the same stuff!) but this year I’ve chosen something that I KNOW he will like and I won’t try to snaffle it for myself. It’s the Star Wars Stormtropper Valentine’s Thirst Aid Kit from Prezzybox.
Now, I’m CERTAIN that he’ll enjoy this gift because my brother and sister-in-law bought us a similar present at Christmas – a luxury box of craft beers to try, with pretzels and treats included. Throughout January it’s been lovely to have a tipple on the weekends so I know this gift will go down really well.
Plus, it’s already gift-boxed so you don’t really need to wrap it – perfect if you wanted to post it directly to the recipient to open up on Valentine’s Day.
A gift for her
So, this is the gift that I’ve requested for myself – a Star Baker Bundle by The Great British Bake Off. It’s a bit of a cheeky gift because there’s a story behind it:
Every year for special occasions liek Valentine’s Day or my husband’s birthday, I try to bake him a treat. Unfortunately, I’m not much of a star baker so the cakes and patries don’t always turn out the way I want – sometimes they’re not even edible!
I’ve tried chocolate fudge sponge cake that was so dry that it needed to be softened in the microwave in order to make it remotely edible. I made croissants – from scratch! – that didn’t puff up at all, so they looked like little prawns. And were a tad hard to crunch through. The apple sauce birthday cake was so inedible that ended up on the bird table and even the birds wouldn’t eat it.
So, it’s about time that I made an effort to improve my baking skills and perhaps the baking kit will give me a head start! And maybe my husband will get a decent cake this year.
A gift for the girls
For those of us who are celebrating Galentine’s Day with our friends, I think there’s only one choice – a personalised Galentine’s smash cake! It’s a heart-shaped chocolate shell that you can all smash up together and enjoy the lush chocolates inside – not forgetting to eat the outer too, of course!
The message on this one is a little tongue-in-cheek but you can choose any message you like to celebrate your best friends, or to commemorate an anniversary or any significant day. Order by midnight tonight 8th Feb to make sure that it arrives in time for Valentine’s Day and look forward to all the choocie treats you can enjoy together.
I hope that these gift ideas have given you some inspiration for your own Valentine’s Day celebrations this year. Let me know of any other homemade or last-minute gifts you’re planning in the comments below, I’d love to hear your ideas, too!
