My new blinds – the finishing touch for bathroom & kitchen

Some items have been gifted

This week my new blinds arrived. Did you hear me whooping from where you are? I was thrilled when they were delivered at the weekend because, after struggling for ages to find suitable roller blinds for the difficult small windows in the kitchen and bathroom, I’d turned to the internet for a solution.black and white bathroom interior design inspiration blinds-3Remember my blog post last week about taking design inspiration from 4* luxury bathrooms? Well the bathroom at home was starting to look very similar to The Majestic Hotel’s ‘famous’ mens bathroom: with checker-board floor tiles, white walls and black checked border. With black and white accessories and fittings the bathroom was almost complete, but I had struggled to find a blind that would fit the tiny window in the room. It needed to be black and very simple in design to compliment the rest of the room, so where on earth would I find it?

I’ll tell you – I found the solution at OrderBlinds.co.uk. After a fun hour spent browsing the website, I’d narrowed down my options to four different (although all dark!) colours for the bathroom blind but didn’t want to take the plunge without seeing the product in advance. Thankfully the website offers a free sample service so I ordered each of the fabrics that I was interested in to check out the colours and textures before making my decision. They arrived within a day so I could easily see the options and plumped for a ‘night’ grey/black plain dyed roller blind for the bathroom and a pale creamy yellow for the kitchen.

I think these blinds are the first ever homeware item that I’ve had custom-made and I was worried that the price was going to be sky-high, but even so the made-to-measure blinds were the ideal solution for the tight space in the bathroom. I need not have worried because, as I went through the process of adding the measurements, chain requirements and style, the finished price was easily in line with many ready-made roller blinds on the market. I was delighted when I clicked ‘place order’ because I knew that these would fit perfectly without me needing to adjust them or trim any excess off.

The delivery arrived within a week and both blinds were exactly as I had hoped. The fixings were easy to fit and hubby had helped me to put them up in no time. Honestly, it couldn’t have taken more than half an hour to fit both blinds in the kitchen and bathroom, it was that simple. The end plates were screwed up to the baton across the top of the window and the roller blind simply clipped into the ends. Within minutes we were admiring how smoothly the roller blind rolled down and attached the chain to the side of the wall using the safety clip fitting provided.

I took some snaps to share the finished result with you and I hope you’ll agree that these blinds really finish off the rooms. I think that rooms look really bare or unfinished without a window-treatment but I’d never really want to choose curtains for wet areas such as the bathroom or kitchen, so these are ideal.

The kitchen blind was fitted above the sink so when ordering I choose the Splash Away Sunshine Waterproof Roller Blind option in a pastel yellow shade. It looks like a creamy ice-cream colour when rolled up, but when covering the window in daylight it glows a warm sunny yellow. It looks great with the existing accessories in the kitchen and really finishes off the room.sunny kitchen interior design inspiration blinds_-2 sunny kitchen interior design inspiration blinds_-3What do you think of the new blinds in the bathroom and kitchen? Have you ever had blinds custom-made for your own home? Let me know how you got on and got on with the ordering process and tweet me a photo of your room @Cassiefairy.
