Hurrah! We finally have some new bedding for our new bedroom. After weeks spent stripping off wallpaper, days painting layers and layers of while emulsion to cover up bright peach walls, and even more hours spent laying beautiful laminate flooring, I think it was about time that we got a little reward for all our hard work. And what do you want when you’ve just turned a room into a perfect white cube? Colour, that’s what!
Looking back over my last few home blog posts, I think you can tell the direction in which I’m heading with my interior decor. In fact, it’s no secret that I love mid-century modern design – I’ve had teak furniture and geometric patterns in my home for years. But this time, I’m taking the OTT garishness down a touch. I’m pairing simple white walls with natural textures, so that my mid-century design pieces really stand out and take centre stage.
The bedroom is no exception. Where we previously had an eye-catching DIY feature wall made from the pages of old books, I’ve now decided that the bed itself should be the feature in the room. I’ve bought a sleek Hygena bed from Argos (which will take another month to arrive) and it’s undeniably mid-century in design. So I already had this in mind when it came to choosing some new bedding.
When I started searching for bedding in my favourite mid-century colour palette of orange, olive and mustard, the Julian Charles Spring/Summer 2017 look book popped up. It wasn’t long before I found my ideal MCM bedding in the Geo-Evolution collection. Bright mid-century colours in a reversible stripe? Yes, please!
I had my orange bedside tables and putty-coloured lamp in mind when I chose this duvet set, and the lighter side with thin stripes coordinates perfectly and looks fresh and colourful for spring and summer. The textured throw and cushion were not only the ideal sunny colour to match the bedding, but they’ll also look great in my retro living room, so I can see myself taking the blanket downstairs for Netflix sessions on the sofa.
The side with the thicker rusty stripes will look great in the autumn – I’ve tried it both ways in these photos so that you can see how different it looks for the changing seasons. I just needed to add a few more cushions and an extra blanket to turn it into the cosiest-looking autumn bed ever. By the way, my pretty breakfast bowl and colourful mug are from The Caravan Trail and I got my retro orange alarm clock from DotComGiftShop.
That said, this bedding wasn’t the only contender for my bedroom decor. I also found a beautiful watercolour design in the Ashore range but this isn’t yet available to buy online. I’m happy to wait a little longer before buying this fresh white bedding with inky design – I think it’ll look great in my bedroom for summer. In fact, I think it’ll transform the atmosphere in my bedroom and give it a holiday-home-esque feeling – perfect for my ‘staycation’ at home.
