DIY Patterned bathroom cabinet upcycle

Collaborative feature

If you want to add a splash of colour and burst of pattern to your bathroom, my upcycled bathroom cabinet project is so easy to make. You can coordinate the design with your existing tiles or create an eye-catching pattern to funk up a plain white suite…I’ve been making progress with my bathroom renovation this month (you may have spotted my recent blog post about the finishing touches I’ve added) and today’s post is about the storage cabinet I’ve upcycled with a funky moorish pattern. I had been looking for a bathroom cabinet for months but couldn’t find one that was shallow enough to fit into the space I have available. After a couple of false starts (I thought we could make one to fit using a mirror and a wooden frame, but that turned out to be too difficult) I picked up this plain white cabinet in a charity shop.It was a little tatty and had been used before, but it had all the fixings and only cost £4 so I decided to have a go at upcycling it with a pattern. The size was right and I like the little open shelf beneath the cupboard. I set to work with some sticky vinyl and after just a couple of hours the unit looked like this!I’ve shared the full step-by-step guide on how to decorate the cabinet in the latest issue of Reloved magazine. My DIY project is in Issue 53, which currently on sale in WH Smith, Tesco, Sainsburys and can be ordered or downloaded online so grab a copy if you want to see the project photos from start to finish. Now that the storage is sorted, and I can tidy away all the shampoos and soaps that have been hanging around my bathtub for ages, I can start to think about the shower situation. Initially, we were considering installing a walk-in shower but, when a very low cost suite came up in the January sales, we decided that we couldn’t pass up the chance to have a freestanding tub.We proceeded to install the tub with a shower above as planned, but didn’t really consider how the shower curtain would work in a bath of this shape and size. So we haven’t really been able to have a shower yet! The next step is to sort this out and I’ll be sure to share some snaps of progress over the coming weeks, so watch this space…
