Whether you’re on the hunt for plastic-free skincare products, the best vegan make up or a natural alternative to toothpaste, here are some ideas to get you started on your natural beauty journey. I’ve also shared some of my favourite vegan haircare and skincare ranges on my blog so be sure to check out that post too.
Skincare treats
I’ve been back shopping with one of my favourite natural skincare makers, Wheesht Masks. I’ve used their Soothing Facial oil and cleansing balm for years and this time I’m trying out a couple of products that I’ve never bought before.
I’ve gone for the You’ve Cracked It! facial oil, which is super-hydrating and softens the skin. It smells beautifully natural, with a peaceful woody lavender scent that helps me drift off to sleep when I apply it at night. After the success of using their soothing facial oil on my sensitive skin, I’m excited to see how well this product performs over a prolonged period of time.
A little goes a long way, so I find that the oil lasts for many months of daily application. The oil comes in a recyclable glass bottle with a dropper to apply just the amount you need. You can buy a refill without the dropper to save waste in the future. Plus, the company donates a percentage of each product sale to Free to Shine, helping to provide safe drinking water and education in Cambodia.
I’ve also got a small sachet of the Spirulina and Lemongrass clay mask. Having used the cleansing balm, which doubles up as a moisturising mask, I thought it might be interesting to see what effect a clay mask has on my skin.
I’m loving the idea that I can create a fresh mask every time by mixing a small amount of the powder with a teaspoon of water, making up only what I need so nothing goes to waste. The pouch is also biodegradable so even the packaging can go into the compost bin!
Toothpaste treats
One thing I’ve never managed to get to grips with is finding a vegan, cruelty-free and natural toothpaste product. I’ve got brilliant bamboo toothbrushes from Kikkerland, which are naturally antimicrobial and biodegradable, but have still been using regular toothpaste formulas. Until now, that is!
I’ve finally found a natural toothpaste by Tooth Be Told, which is plastic-free, flouride-free, cruelty-free and certified by The Vegan Society. Amazingly, it is completely black – the colour comes from natural charcoal, which is effective at removing stains and plaque. But don’t worry, it still has a familiar minty flavour and contains coconut oil to neutralise odours.
The product is packaged in sustainably-sourced bamboo, with a recycled aluminium pot and a cardboard inner seal to eliminate plastic waste. It’s is delivered in cardboard boxes so no plastic to be found there either.
Relaxation treats
Even though I’ve previously shared ways to DIY a spa day at home, my sister-in-law and I were recently discussing just how lovely having a day out at a spa is. So I’m including a spa experience in my list of autumn beauty treats. Well, what better way is there to prepare for the new season (and all the chaos of Christmas to come!) than by starting out with a lovely relaxing spa visit?
I’ve found that one of the thriftiest ways to enjoy a spa day with some luxury treatments thrown in, is by buying a gift voucher rather than going direct to the spa. You often get more of a deal with a voucher when compared to the combined cost of a spa visit. Once you’ve added on lunch or a glass of bubbly, a manicure, facial or massage, it soon adds up, whereas many of these options are already included within the cost of a voucher.
Plus, aside from the treatments, there are steam rooms, aromatherapy rooms, pools, saunas and jacuzzis to enjoy. And, quite simply, the pure relaxation of a day to yourself in the spa and the company of a friend or family member.
Vouchers from BuyAGift are eligible to be used at countless spa locations around the country so you’re sure to find one nearby to get you feeling relaxed and rejuvenated, ready for autumn. Plus, you can go paperless by buying an e-voucher, which saves you on postage costs too!
Let me know what else you would add to this list of autumn beauty treats in the comments. I’d love to hear your suggestions of new vegan and natural beauty brands for me to try out next time – maybe I’ll pull together some more skincare and haircare brands that would make good Christmas gifts? Please sure your recommendations below. Thanks! 🙂
