We only have one beautiful Earth and now we are beginning to realise what we need to do to protect it. The bright side is that you don’t have to sit back and watch things get worse because there are many small changes that can help you become more environmentally friendly.

This does not just apply at home, either. Your business can play a huge part in reducing its impact and here are some ideas that can help you get started if you’re a small business owner.

Dispose of waste correctly

No matter what industry you are in, there will always be some kind of waste created while running a business. The problem is that many businesses take the easy route and send everything straight to landfill and some even dispose of waste illegally. A much better option is to work with a reputable company that can collect and dispose of your waste safely and in a way that protects the environment. It is quicker, cleaner and far more responsible.

Go paper-free

It might sound obvious, but even though everyone knows how damaging it is to cut down trees, many companies still blast through piles of paper every week. When you turn your business paper-free free you immediately reduce unnecessary waste and set a strong example for others. You may need to invest in a secure digital filing system, but the long-term savings make it more than worth it and you will be doing your part for the planet.

Learn greener habits

One surprisingly helpful step is learning another language because it can completely change the way you approach new ideas and new cultures that value sustainability. It can also open your mind to different ways of reducing waste and improving your workplace. You may even learn about simple solutions such as the use of eco-friendly hand dryers, which are common in other countries and can help reduce paper towel waste in your own business.

Use green cleaning products

Even if you are not a cleaning company, there will always be something that needs tidying. From a quick spritz around the office to keeping a shared kitchen fresh, it helps to choose green cleaning products instead of harsh chemicals that linger in the air. Eco-friendly cleaning options are easy to find now, which makes this one of the simplest changes you can make.

Start a company car pool

Everybody these days seems to drive to work because it feels like the most convenient way to travel without dealing with public transport. Rather than having all staff members show up in their own cars, you could introduce a company car pool, so your team can cut down on unnecessary pollution. You could even offer a small incentive to those who take part, which often helps people stick with new habits.

I hope these ideas will help you to become more sustainable in your business, whether that’s a side hustle or you’re running a large company. Please let me know in the comments below what things you’re doing to help your business become more environmentally friendly, I’d love to hear your ideas.
