What to wear to your engagement party

Weddings are a joyful occasion, but they can also be full of stress as well, especially for the soon-to-be spouses. On the other hand, engagement parties are a much more relaxed celebration of basically the same thing – a mini wedding, if you will! An engagement party is meant to share that special feeling of the life-changing “yes” to the entire family and your closest friends. That’s what makes these parties so much fun! But there’s one important question – what to wear to your engagement party? Do you dress formal, casual, what colours should you wear? Can you ever wear white?! Here’s a quick rundown to help you decide:

Determine the Type of the Party

The overall dress-code will largely depend on the style of your party. In most cases, these parties resemble a cocktail party, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get creative and plan the things you enjoy like a barbecue in the backyard or a night out in the club. Or maybe, you want it to have a more formal tone. Once you’ve decided on the theme, make sure your guests are up to speed as well.

Be Yourself

Brides are particularly fond of engagement parties because they don’t have to go through all the madness of finding the ‘dream’ dress, like the do for their wedding day. Instead, they are free to showcase their style and pick out any colour or style they like. A floral dress will make you look dashing during a day party, while a little black dress is perfect for a nighttime cocktail event.

Don’t Overdo It with Accessories

Even if the engagement party outfit should be less eye-catching than the actual wedding dress, the engagement ring should still be the focal point of your outfit. Therefore, try not to over accessorise with layered or bulky jewellery. You can pair the engagement ring with a single statement piece like a pair of earrings or a necklace. Of course, different types of rings will only work with certain pieces of jewellery, so make sure they match in style and finish.

Choose the Colour

If you want to keep the party traditional, why not choose a white dress for your engagement party? It doesn’t have to be as elaborate as a wedding dress though. A simple, sleek white dress will do. Ivory or cream, or touch of lace will also do the trick. However, if you don’t want to wear white before the wedding, you can pick any other colour as well. I love a pastel dress for a summer party!

The Type of Dress

As far as dress length s concerned, you can’t go wrong with a knee-long dress. Shorter than that might prove uncomfortable to move around in, and you should definitely save a long dress for the wedding ceremony. Since the engagement party is less formal, you can also go with a slightly slinkier dress that will show off your curves, since you’ll probably be going for something more classic for the wedding. Just remember to keep it classy as your future hubbies’ family will be there too!
