Christmas deliveries – why I won’t miss the last post this year!

I always think to myself, ‘this year I’m going to be so prepared, and get all my Christmas and gifts in the post during the first week of December’. Does it ever happen? Nope! Honestly, I don’t know where the days go. From as early as November, I already feel like I’m playing catch-up and am the only person not to be ready for Christmas. Of course, in reality, I know that most of you feel the same, which is precisely why I’m writing about festive postage today…I admit it; one year I didn’t send any Christmas cards. That’s pretty rubbish, isn’t it? I mean, it’s great for the environment (less card and paper to be recycled) and good for my purse (how much are those stamps?!) but I wasn’t doing it for either of those reasons. It was simply because I blinked and it was 24th December. I’d missed my chance to get anything posted. All my friends and family got an electronic message from me and, of course, no-one really minded. But parcels-wise it meant that I had to travel around dropping off presents at the last minute. And those icy roads are no fun when you’d rather be eating a mince pie watching The Snowman on Christmas eve!

LAST POSTING DATES

It’s something I look up every year. I wonder why? Perhaps it’s because I’m always SO late with getting my Christmas cards written that it’s always a last minute scramble to the post office. So, here’s your advance warning of the last posting dates for 2017:

  • 20th December – 2nd class
  • 21st December – 1st class
  • 21st December – Special delivery guaranteed
  • 22nd December – Special delivery guaranteed Saturday delivery
SAME DAY DELIVERY

Did you know it’s possible to get same day delivery for Christmas gifts? I know, I couldn’t believe it at first! It’s simply a case of choosing a courier company like TNT and picking their same day service. This is especially convenient when it’s getting close to the big day and you realise that you forgot to get that parcel for your grandad in the post before the last posting dates. Why take the chance sending it in the post when you can guarantee delivery with a courier?

INTERNATIONAL DELIVERY

My little niece and nephew live ‘abroad’ in Ireland. Sure, it doesn’t seem far away, but when I’m posting a parcel with their Christmas gifts, I really need to plan ahead to make sure they arrive on time. I’ve had parcels take over a month to arrive in the past, can you believe it?! Although, last year – I finished making their homemade teddy bears the week before Christmas and they arrived within a couple of days. Amazing! The last posting date to Ireland is officially the 16th December. Even so, I don’t like to leave it to the last minute, so I’ll be getting any parcels that need to be delivered internationally into the post this week – hence all the wrapping today!Let me know your usual plans for sending cards or packing up parcels by leaving me a comment below. Do you hand-deliver? Are you cards in the post on December 1st? I’d love to hear all about it.
